Following the rules can be fun with this puzzle game

Rules! is a brain-training memory test and a fabulously-fun puzzle all rolled into one beautifully-designed package.

Can you remember the rules?

: click to discard all 16 cards by following a series of rules that change with each round. For example, you start off by following only one rule, which is to click the numbers in ascending order. Then you follow two rules (the new rule first). So this could be clicking on the pictures of the whales and when you've discarded all the whale cards you move on to tapping the cards in ascending order. And so on.

But when you get to level 11, the game gets a shake-up as the old set of rules go out the window and new ones are introduced. This time you must start by clicking on the cards in ascending order.

There are three game modes: beginner, expert and timeless. In the beginner mode, you have a time limit but can make as many mistakes as you like. Same goes for expert mode but the time limit is shorter. In timeless mode, you don’t have a time limit but you can only make a certain amount of mistakes.

Train your brain

Explaining the concept of Rules! is way more complicated than it is to play. The only difficulty is remembering all the rules when you're up against the clock or you've only got a certain number of moves left.

It really tests your memory and, while you could write the rules down, where is the fun in that?

It's tough to find a fault

It's not just the gameplay that makes Rules! stand out, it's the well thought out and designed concept. From the little grunts of dismay when from the animals when you click on the wrong card, to the quirky pieces of advice between rounds, to the relaxing music in the background, it's hard to find fault with this game.

And it's all brought together in a cute package, with whales and robots and birds and mustaches (they are my favorite).

A winning formula

Rules! is beautifully designed, fun to play, addictive and just the right level of challenging gameplay. It is the kind of game that doesn't come along very often.
